Explore the benefits of training with us below:

We are a social enterprise, a company without shareholders, and proud to be a member of the national trade body Social Enterprise UK.

We start in the workplace and reinvest our profit to give access to quality mental health training. We offer subsidised training to the NHS, organisations which support frontline workers, and Black-led organisations.

By training with us you will be joining our mission to train one in ten people in mental health awareness and skills.

We are the sole organisation in England permitted to provide Mental Health First Aid Instructor Training licensed by Mental Health First Aid International.

Mental Health First Aid International, based in Australia, is a not-for-profit organisation that develops, delivers and evaluates accredited mental health training programs. The Mental Health First Aid Program began in Australia in 2000, and has since evolved into a global movement that is delivered by an active community of licensed providers in 24 countries. To date, over 4 million people worldwide have been trained.

The cost of an MHFA England Instructor Training programme reflects the quality of teaching, materials and support that you will receive as part of your experience.

Unlicensed instructor training courses are unlikely to have the evidence base or quality that is associated with the accredited MHFA England Instructor Training programme.

To become an Instructor Member, learners must pass our rigorous licenced training programme and approval process accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health.

The Instructor Training programme is delivered by our expert National Trainers either face to face or online. It consists of several training days spread over a number of weeks, followed by an assessment and sign-off process to become approved as an Instructor Member.

Once approved, Instructor Members also have a minimum course delivery requirement and must complete at least two pieces of professional development per year to ensure their skills stay up to date and to maintain their membership with us.

MHFA England training courses and materials are grounded in research, written by clinical experts and those with lived experience of mental health issues. Our courses are rigorously piloted before launch, and feedback is regularly reviewed, with guidance and statistics updated as part of our ongoing product development cycle.

Everyone who attends a course gets an in-depth manual to keep which is full of further information and support resources.

MHFA first came to England in 2007 under the Department of Health, as the original provider of Mental Health First Aid skills in England. In 2009 we became a community interest company which means our profits are reinvested in the community.

Our expertise is built on over a decade of delivering our courses and we have provided training and consultancy for over 20,000 workplaces.

"It's so rewarding to know I am teaching people the vital skills to support others and it has helped me to look after my own wellbeing more too."
