We are delighted to announce that we have produced a new film, Depression and Me, which shines a light on lived experience of depression and recovery.

Depression and Me features a conversation between actor Denise Welch and Chloe Davies, Head of PR and Partnerships at myGwork about their individual mental health journeys, how depression impacts them, and what helps in their recovery.

Denise and Chloe provide an honest and authentic account of their very different experiences of mental ill health. They talk about topics such as the stigma attached to mental ill health, intersectionality and the impact on mental health, the importance of seeking support, and finding a therapist that can understand and relate to your lived experience.

Simon Blake, Chief Executive of MHFA England said:

“More people are experiencing poor mental health as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, the long-term impact of systemic racism continues to affect the mental health of People of Colour and Black people, creating an ever-greater urgency to tackle the stigma around depression and mental ill health.

“I am grateful to Denise and Chloe for generously sharing their experiences of living with depression so candidly, including the impact the intersections of race, sexuality, and gender can have on mental ill health. 1 in 4 people experience mental health issues each year. Denise and Chloe provide hope that with the right support, recovery is possible for many people.”

We hope that you find Depression and Me to be a useful resource in educating yourself, your workplace, and your communities about depression and mental ill health. You can access Depression and Me via the MHFA England YouTube channel.
