In this newsletter:

Welcome to your first Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England newsletter of 2020.

I’m excited to let you know that we start the year having now trained 1 in 80 of the population in England in mental health awareness and skills.

This is a huge achievement and we’d like to thank our Instructor Members, Mental Health First Aiders and our central team for all playing their part in making this happen.

If you have trained with us within the last three years (or more), you can also now take our Refresher course to keep your skills and knowledge up to date – just as you can with physical First Aid. Find more information on this here.

And last but not least, we are thrilled to be launching a new campaign for workplace culture change this month – My Whole Self. Join us in calling for inclusive, healthy workplaces where everyone can bring their whole self to work. Find out more about this exciting new campaign and how to get involved below.

Thanks for all the work you do, day in day out to support those around you.

Profit with pride: supporting South Asian communities

During the last few months, MHFA England has trained 69 South Asian Action Plan volunteers in Birmingham, London and Bradford, in partnership with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

As a social enterprise, we reinvest our profits to offer free and discounted training to those in the sports and recreation sector who work with young people, but can’t afford our training.

Since 1 April, we’ve trained 3,080 delegates from organisations including Youth Realities, Debate Mate and YMCA.
Campaigns and media

We’re excited to let you know about our new workplace campaign, My Whole Self.

My Whole Self is calling for people to be empowered to bring their whole self to work - because it’s better for wellbeing and better for business. The highest performing workplaces are supportive and inclusive.

Putting diversity and inclusion at the centre of mental health and wellbeing creates a culture where people can be themselves at work. This helps us to feel more engaged, to think bolder, find common ground, and work more effectively together.

A campaign kit has been developed to support you to get involved on and offline with our new campaign. Take part in the conversation as we build up to My Whole Self Day on Wednesday 18 March when workplaces across the country will be joining calls for people to bring their whole self to work.
Join us at Health and Wellbeing at Work

Health and Wellbeing at Work, the UK’s leading event for people who are improving health, safety, wellbeing and performance in workplaces, is just a few weeks away.

There is a dedicated mental health programme, which includes a session with Sarah McIntosh, our Director of People & Organisational Effectiveness on how to build an inclusive workforce. Other MHFA England speakers include Fionuala Bonnar, our Chief Operating Officer, who will join a panel discussion about what’s next for mental health awareness training, and Kathryn Grant, MHFA England Associate Instructor Member, who will discuss post-partum psychosis.
