There were 5,579 suicides registered in England in 2023. Each week, approximately 115 people die by suicide in the UK. Research has found that as many as 650 suicides in the UK, or 10% each year, could be work-relate (All data from Office for National Statistics reporting and its Hazards Campaign). We want workplaces to embed suicide awareness, prevention and support into their mental health and wellbeing strategies. We are here to help you do that.
The need to support everyone’s mental health and wellbeing is greater than ever. Work, done well can positively support people’s mental health. Organisations should evaluate and strengthen the role they play in preventing suicides. In doing so, they should create clear, actionable plans to support those having thoughts of suicide and those impacted by suicide.
Suicide is preventable through education and intervention. MHFA England®’s training and consultancy can help to create supportive cultures where wellbeing and productivity thrive.

Since 2007 we have provided training to over 20,000 workplaces with 91% of people reporting they had a better understanding of mental health after completing their MHFA England course.
Our MHFA course is ideal for staff at every level who would like to become an MHFAider®. Learners will gain the knowledge and skills to spot signs of a person experiencing poor mental health, be confident to start a conversation and signpost to appropriate support. Our training promotes early intervention and recovery, which can prevent an individual’s mental health deteriorating.
By training with us, learners can become a member of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders®. This gives them access to MHFA England’s exclusive support and benefits including a Suicide prevention toolkit and webinars on suicide prevention.
If you are looking to develop your people’s understanding of suicide prevention further, we now offer Suicide First Aid training. We have partnered with the National Centre for Suicide Prevention Education and Training (NCSPET) to deliver two courses.
