Instructor Profile
Personal Details

I have been promoting mental health and wellbeing for many years. I recognise the increasing need that people have for support, awareness, education and understanding. I was awarded an MBE due to my selfless commitment and work towards improving mental health in the military and civilian community.

I have completed 33 years regular service in the army and I have been a reservist for 6 years. I was mobilised in March 2020, as a Military Liaison Officer, to the Scottish Government, as a member of their COVID planning team and I am now a volunteer vaccinator and MOD mediator.

I promote equality, diversity and inclusion. I believe we all have the right to live life in our own way as long as it does not have a detrimental impact on others.

I hope that the stigma around mental health ends soon. With education and understanding, we can promote better mental health and wellbeing as a whole.

Work Experience

I enlisted into the Army in 1984 and have a wide range of experience including operational tours and extreme trauma. Whilst serving, I have also worked as a mediator, clinical hypnotherapist and helpline support worker. My training includes Master of NLP, CBT and EFT and I am experienced in Trauma Risk Management (TRIM) and Trauma Incident Reduction (TIR).

I felt humbled when I was previously the Selly Oak Hospital Liaison Officer and then Families Liaison Officer, supporting the families of soldiers injured and killed, whilst in service. I was also involved in service community projects, delivering self-help and stress management training sessions to families. I am currently a coach for the Invictus Games and I am inspired by every athlete.

I am a Mental Health National Trainer and Associate Trainer. I now deliver training to many organisations including the Metropolitan Police, MOD, Security Services, Highways England, construction industry, logistics, IT and management organisations. Charity work is also a very important part of my work schedule. I am a facilitator and trustee for the Martin Gallier Project, which is a suicide intervention charity and a volunteer for St John Ambulance vaccination delivery. I am a British Cycling leader and coach and I promote cycling as a positive coping mechainism and to prevent lonliness and isolation within the community.

Having worked in a male dominated environment, I have seen first hand the impact on men who are unable / unwilling to seek support due to barriers and stigma. I actively promote male support networks as we urgently need to decrease suicides. 3 of every 4 suicides in the UK are male.

I understand the pressures of being a working parent and the challenges of a highly demanding and competitive career.
