I have worked for a variety of voluntary and statutory mental health services over the past 20 years. This includes working on acute wards within psychiatric hospitals, with homelessness projects, with people with alcohol and substance misuse issues - and with adults and children and young people. Until February 2014, I worked with Coventry and Warwickshire Mind and in addition to roles within Floating Support, Supported Accommodation, Befriending, IAPT, Rehab and Recovery, I became Senior Operational Manager and worked within Business Development. As part of this role, I developed social enterprise initiatives, including a Training Service.
I deliver a variety of training programmes, often with people who use/have used mental health services, who co-design and deliver their lived experience of mental health, wellbeing and recovery.
Since 2009, I have delivered (and co-delivered), MHFA Standard, Youth MHFA, NOCN MHFA, and MHFA Lite - winning National Awards for delivery of both Youth and Standard versions of the course, and nominated for MHFA Champion Award. I am a contracted MHFA Workplace Associate for MHFA England CIC, a Youth MHFA for Schools instructor, an instructor MHFA for the Armed Forces Community, a Freelance trainer for the BBC Academy, and a Part-time Lecturer at Coventry University.
Examples of clients I have delivered MHFA products to include: BBC, Banks/Building Society's, Police, Paramedics, Academics in Higher Education, Social workers, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Support workers, Specialist Teachers, Citizens Advice Bureau, Counselling Services, Looked After Children Services, Youth groups, Local Mind Association employees, Lafarge, Transerv, Aggregate Industries, JCB, Tarmac, Hanson, Highways England, Crossrail, Costain, CEMEX, Police Treatment Centres, Solicitors, Nurses, various Voluntary Organisations, (e.g. Together UK and COMPASS), Victim Support, Youth Offending Service, individuals and family members who are interested in increasing their mental health literacy - and many more.
"I have just completed a Mental Health First Aid course delivered by Dawn. A wonderful balance of useful information and knowledge presented in a very humanistic way ably under-pinned by Dawn's professional and personal experiences. A powerful combination and absolutely relevant for the subject matter. I would highly recommend Dawn as a mental health trainer and to act in a broader advisory capacity." (Peter McCormick, Project Manager BBC, July 2015).
Dawn is one of the most interesting and engaging trainers you will ever meet. I have had the pleasure of both being trained by Dawn and engaging her services to deliver mental health training to my clients. I have nothing but praise for the way she delivers on a topic which at times can be uncomfortable for people to talk about. Feedback on her courses is always excellent.
