Personal Details
Alex qualified as a General Nurse in 1987, and after qualifiying worked in a variety of general medical and cardiac settings until 1995 when she joined an Income Protection insurance company as their first nurse advisor. She remained employed in the Health Claims industry until 2014, setting up teams of Insurance Nurse Specialists and Voctional Rehabilitation Consultants for two of the largest Income Protection providers in the UK.
Since March 2014, Alex has worked independently, and her company, Absence Management Solutions Ltd, and provides nationwide case management services to support individuals who are struggling to remain in work by virtue of illness or injury, or to those returning to work after extended periods of absence. Alex’s clients have both mental health and physical issues and she works closely with them, their employer and their treatment providers. She believes in supporting individuals holistically, to enable them to manage their psychological, physical and sociological response to illness.
Alex is regularly asked to provide training to clients, on subjects including mental health awareness, and is also asked to speak on their behalf at conferences. She always gets excellent feedback in relation to her style of delivery, engagement with the audience and her ability to bring the topic alive. She is passionate about breaking down the stigma of mental ill health and giving people the confidence to discuss it, as they would a physical.
When not at work, Alex enjoys keeping active at the gym or on her bike, cooking, catching up with friends and spending time with her family.
