Leyla Okhai is the founder of Diverse Minds, a consultancy that enables organisations to create a postively productive workplace for all. Diverse Minds is centred on improving workplace well-being and enhancing cultural capability. She has delivered MHFA courses to EY, HM Passport Office, Health Education England, University of London, University of the Arts London, UCL and a number of Local Authorities. Leyla is also a coach and mediator and works with individuals in a tailored way.
Leyla was the Head of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Centre at Imperial College London, from 2012 until April 2017. She specialises in strategic policy work and well as practically supporting staff and leading on mental health initiatives in the workplace. She has trained over 200 MHFAiders at Imperial College and was successful in supporting seven additional instructors being trained.
Leyla was formerly the Senior Equality Advisor, at the University of Oxford specialising in race, religion and belief in the Equality and Diversity Unit. Prior to this Leyla worked in Oxford’s Widening Participation office within the Undergraduate Admissions Office from January 2006 to September 2009. Her role was to encourage young people from diverse backgrounds to apply to higher education and Oxford.
Leyla has extensive experience in student support gained from her time as an Executive Officer at Leeds University Students' Union, where she developed a mental health Policy, hailed as best practice by the NUS. In 2005 Leyla volunteered in Spain running programmes to support new migrants. She is trained as a TEFL teacher and has taught in Europe.
