By becoming an MHFA England Instructor Member you can help to improve the mental health of the nation, starting in your workplace.

We offer expert guidance and training to support mental health, in the workplace and beyond, to create an unshakable belief that we can all talk freely about mental health and seek support when we need it. Together we will create a society where everyone’s mental health matters.

Explore the benefits of training with us below:

We are a social enterprise, a company without shareholders, and proud to be a member of the national trade body Social Enterprise UK.

We start in the workplace and reinvest our profit in supporting the next generation, by offering subsidised training to those in the sports and recreation sectors working with young people.

By training with us you will be joining our mission to train one in ten people in mental health awareness and skills.

We are the sole organisation in England permitted to provide Mental Health First Aid Instructor Training licensed by Mental Health First Aid International, the global community that has trained over 3 million people.

The cost of an MHFA England Instructor Training programme reflects the quality of teaching, materials and support that you will receive as part of your experience.

Unlicensed instructor training courses are unlikely to have the evidence base or quality that is associated with MHFA England Instructor Training programmes which have been running for over ten years and are part of a global programme run in 25 countries.

All MHFA England Instructor Members must pass our rigorous licenced seven day training programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health.

Delivered by our expert National Trainers, this programme is spread over six weeks followed by an assessment and sign-off process, and one year of mentor support. Our instructors also have a minimum course delivery requirement and must attend at least one upskill event per year to ensure their skills stay up to date and maintain their registration with us.

MHFA England training courses and materials are grounded in research, written by clinical experts and those with lived experience of mental health issues. Our courses are rigorously piloted before launch, and feedback is regularly reviewed, with guidance and statistics updated as part of our ongoing product development cycle.

Everyone who attends a course gets an in-depth manual to keep which is full of further information and support resources.

MHFA first came to England in 2007 under the Department of Health, as the original provider of Mental Health First Aid skills in England. In 2009 we became a community interest company which means our profits are reinvested in the community.

Our expertise is built on over a decade of delivering our courses and we have provided training and consultancy for over 20,000 workplaces.

"It's so rewarding to know I am teaching people the vital skills to support others and it has helped me to look after my own wellbeing more too."
