We all have mental health. Everyone should have access to mental health support, and everyone should have access to quality mental health training.
We strive to create courses and resources that everyone can access. We have worked closely with organisations such as the RNIB, Disability Labour, and New College Worcester, using expert advice to improve our courses and make them accessible to all.
If you’re an approved Instructor Member, please visit the resources section of the dashboard to download guidance and support for how to ensure your courses are accessible and disability friendly.
When you book onto a course through the MHFA England website, please fill in the 'Accessibility requirements' section of the booking form and tell us what you need to access the course. Some examples might be:
Wheelchair access
Disabled parking space
A hearing loop
A sign language interpreter
Our course materials are available in different formats. To choose the format of your course materials, please fill in the 'Accessibility requirements' section of the booking form when you book onto a course through the MHFA England website.
Here are the formats we currently have available:
Printed paper booklets are our standard format for all course manuals and workbooks. These are appropriate for people without accessibility needs.
Large print versions are available for all our manuals and workbooks. These are ideal if you need text to be larger, tables expanded, or need visual descriptors beneath images.
Due to their length, we can’t always offer paper copies of large print materials. When a paper copy isn't available, we supply large print versions digitally in PDF format.
If you need materials in a digital format, PDF versions are available for all our manuals, workbooks, and course slide decks. These can be used with some accessible technologies, such as magnification, narration, or colour filtering software.
If you need digital materials with unlocked formatting, Microsoft Word versions are available for many of our manuals and workbooks. These can be used with accessible technologies such as screen readers.
If you will be using an interpreter on the course, we can provide a stripped lesson plan in PDF format. Stripped lesson plans include course timings, key messages, and details of activities and videos.
You can send the stripped lesson plan to your interpreter ahead of time. This will help the interpreter get to know the course structure and prepare to provide live interpretation during the course.
We are developing page number guides for Instructor Members to use when delivering courses. These will contain page number references for people who are using the alternative formats above. Page number guides will soon be available for Instructor Members to download from their dashboard.
If you have any queries about ordering accessible course materials, please get in touch on orders@mhfaengland.org or call 0203 928 0760.
We are continually working to make our courses more accessible and to add more formats. We would love to hear from you if you have any feedback or suggestions. Please email us on productdevelopment@mhfaengland.org.
