A month on from Mental Health Awareness Week 2019, we’re looking back at the impact of our two campaigns, the ‘Where’s Your Head At’ Workplace Manifesto, and #EmpowerHalfHour.
Where’s Your Head At? Workplace Manifesto
The Where’s Your Head At? Workplace Manifesto, launched in partnership with Bauer Media and mental health campaigner Natasha Devon, is a mission statement calling for a healthier working world. For this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, we called on employers and MPs to show their commitment to protecting and supporting the mental health of their people by signing up to the Manifesto.
A month later, the Manifesto now has hundreds of organisations signed up, including widespread support from the mental health sector, with Mind, Centre for Mental Health, Mental Health Foundation, YoungMinds, Place2Be, Time to Change, Rethink Mental Illness, Mental Health Innovations, City Mental Health Alliance, St John Ambulance, Samaritans, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists all joining its calls.
Other employers signing up include Bupa, WHSmith, PwC, Thames Water, Legal & General, Hogan Lovells, Three UK, and industry bodies such as the Institute of Directors (IoD), the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), and teaching union NASUWT.

It's #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek and many firms know how important it is to support their employees. To help others commit to doing more, we asked @simonablake @MHFAEngland to explain what the #WheresYourHeadAt Workplace Manifesto is all about: https://t.co/eX9qK53jV5 pic.twitter.com/andKtqzilg

The Manifesto has also already been back by 20 MPs from across the major parties.
Employers have a legal responsibility to ensure someone in the workplace has first aid training. This must be extended to #mentalhealth too.

I urge all employers to join me & sign up to the ‘Where’s your head at’ manifesto: https://t.co/gwskUWzONP. Let’s end the stigma! pic.twitter.com/Hg5oJOvV6k
You can see all the organisations who have signed up so far on our website.
Empower Half Hour was a social media campaign encouraging everyone to take thirty minutes out of their working day to focus on wellbeing.
MHFA England led the way with internal activities under five categories; share, bond, motivate, move, and discover, and other employers followed our lead.
At home with my boys today and spent the morning playing in the garden before a leisurely stroll in the sunshine to drop eldest off at preschool. Perfect way to nourish our physical and #mentalhealth! #EmpowerHalfHour pic.twitter.com/Tj0J6WGeOH

We took part in #EmpowerHalfHour at New Leaf by getting crafty with clay (in London and Hanoi)! Great fun and a brilliant idea, reminding us of the importance of physical and #mental #wellbeing. Thanks @MHFAEngland! #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek pic.twitter.com/odtbusohMO

To support Mental Health First Aid England’s #EmpowerHalfHour, here at RB we are running mindfulness sessions through the week.

These sessions teach our employees skills they can use to self manage a wide range of mental health related issues. pic.twitter.com/aAFTCN2Nw6
Since launching for Mental Health Awareness Week, the #EmpowerHalfHour hashtag has been used nearly 2,000 times. The campaign encoruaged organisations to take their wellbeing activities forward into the rest of the year.
Here’s the MHFA England Central Team doing just that, with our Crafternoon sessions starting last week:
On Thursdays our Central Team gather for an #EmpowerHalfHour crafternoon session, helping to break up their day and encouraging them to step away from their desks and catch up with colleagues.
