Mental Health First Aid England registered as a Community Interest Company a decade ago. Today Social Enterprise UK is encouraging those of us lucky enough to work in the social enterprise sector to shout about why #MyJobMatters. I am proud and privileged to be Chief Executive of MHFA England and here are five top reasons why:

Reason one: our reason for existing – to improve the mental health of the nation – is an issue of social justice and I feel passionately about it. Every single thing we do is about achieving our goal.

Reason two: we make profit with pride and we reinvest our profits in achieving our goals by providing training for those who work with young people who could not otherwise afford high quality mental health training. At the moment we are providing training free of charge to those working in the sports and recreation sectors.

Reason three: a business with such a clear social purpose attracts brilliant people – from our central team, to our Instructors, National Trainers, Associates and Non-Execs – all 100 percent committed to helping achieve our vision and go about it with creativity, flair and determination and that is a joy.

Reason four: as an organisation that trades we do not rely on anyone for our funding. That means we are able to determine what we do and how we do it, based on what we think is the right thing to do.

Reason five: we belong to a strong community of social enterprises, all finding new and better ways to do business and make a difference in the world. And I am proud to be part of that community.
