Personal Details

Kathryn is a former Bank of England economist, who latterly worked at the Greater London Authority and KPMG.

Very shortly after the birth of her son James in 2012, Kathryn suffered a rare but serious

condition called Postpartum Psychosis. She and her son were hospitalised at a psychiatric Mother and Baby Unit, where she was also given a bipolar disorder diagnosis.

Kathryn had suffered from periods of depression throughout her twenties, whilst working in the City. Now it all made sense: and as she recovered from the psychosis she gained a great deal of understanding around her mental health and wellbeing.

Around this time, Kathryn also became passionate about improving understanding and awareness of mental illness. It was this which led her to Mental Health First Aid. As well as becoming an MHFA instructor, Kathryn is a highly experienced public speaker who has spoken on mental health issues at numerous conferences and events, as well as to mainstream media. This work was recognised at the 2016 Mind Media Awards where she was given the 2016 Speaking Out award, alongside her friend and fellow campaigner Eve Canavan.

When Kathryn is not busy with mental health matters, she enjoys reading new novels, baking cakes for her friends and family, and keeping fit.
