Hi my name is Julie Field and I am the Mental Health First Aid Coordinator at Restore. Restore is an Oxfordshire based mental health recovery charity that has sites across Oxfordshire. We offer recovery groups, one to one coaching sessions and we have our own recovery college where we look at recovery through education. I am part of the training team and for the past nine years have delivered courses up and down the country. We have delivered to businesses, charities, universities, colleges and many other types of organisations. I joined Restore as a Mental Health First Aid instructor in September 2013 became the lead trainer in 2017 and the Mental Health First Aid Coordinator in 2020. I was so honoured to receive the MHFA England instructor award at the House of Lords a few years ago, a day I will never forget.
I recognised the importance of raising awareness of mental health issues in the community after a period of mental ill health myself back in 2010. After attending a MHFA course at Restore. I knew straight away what a difference it would make if everybody did this course. It challenges common misconceptions of mental ill health, in order to diminish the stigma and discrimination that is still present today. The skills you learn to support others can be life changing for a person, whether that be a family member, friend, colleague or a stranger. It left me passionate about putting my teaching qualifications to use in another area where it was much needed.
