At Mental Health First Aid England®, we continuously strive to promote positive transformations in workplace mental health and performance.

We firmly believe that wellbeing and productivity are interconnected, and fostering an environment where employees can bring their whole selves to work is essential for their overall mental health and organisational success.

Introducing the annual digital wellbeing day, techtimeout tuesday

On 28 November 2023, we are thrilled to join forces with the digital wellbeing company, techtimeout, in observing ‘techtimeout tuesday’, a special day dedicated to digital wellbeing awareness. This campaign encourages individuals and workplaces across the UK to take a break from technology, step away from screens, and focus on fostering a healthier relationship with digital devices.

Digital wellbeing: A holistic approach to health and performance

Digital wellbeing is the impact technology has on mental, physical, and emotional health. In today's fast-paced world, technology plays a crucial role in both our personal and professional lives. However, excessive screen time and constant connectivity can take a toll on our health. Research shows that prolonged exposure to digital devices may lead to feelings of overwhelm, stress, and anxiety, impacting our overall wellbeing.

At MHFA England®, we believe that by addressing digital wellbeing, we can enhance both individual and team performance. When employees feel supported, they work better together, fostering a more vibrant and productive workplace.

Why #TechTimeOutTuesday?

The day is a unique opportunity for workplaces to empower their employees to take a step back from screens and engage in offline activities. This collective effort is a powerful reminder to strike a balance between technology use and real-life experiences.

By participating in techtimeout tuesday, organisations can:

  • Prioritise employee wellbeing: Demonstrating a commitment to employee wellbeing sends a powerful message that their health and happiness matter.

  • Foster team cohesion: Engaging in offline activities together fosters a sense of camaraderie which supports team cohesion and collaboration.

  • Promote digital balance: Encouraging intentional breaks from technology helps employees find balance, reducing stress and enhancing overall focus.

  • Raise awareness: By being part of the techtimeout tuesday campaign, organisations can play a vital role in raising awareness about digital wellbeing and its impact on mental health.

Message from Simon Blake, CEO of MHFA England

“So much of our time both at work and at home is spent on phones and computers, with notifications popping up here, there, and everywhere. Technology has so much power for good, but only if we also know how to step away from it and give our brain and body the chance to both enjoy the power of connection with people, nature, and rest.

“At MHFA England, we are proudly paving the way for positive mental health in the workplace, and as part of our approach to wellbeing we will be partnering with techtimeout to host this year's digital wellbeing day ‘techtimeout tuesday’ on 28 November to encourage improvements in our digital habits, and we'll be encouraging everyone to get involved too.”
