Our history
Improving the mental health of the nation since 2007
Mental Health First Aid training came to England in 2007. The Department of Health: National Institute for Mental Health in England (NIMHE) developed and launched the programme as part of a national approach to improve public health.
We’ve come a long way over the years. There are now over 2,200 Instructor Members delivering our training courses. We’ve trained over 1.2 million people in mental health knowledge, awareness, and skills, including nearly 840,000 MHFAiders® in England.
Together, we’re transforming how we talk about and support mental health in the workplace and beyond.
